SUMMARY. In 1080 Divorce and Remarriage, Reverend Catania looks at the culture of Jesus' day and time and the two opinions of the day concerning divorce by the Rabbis Hillel and Shammai. If you see the context of Matthew 19:9 and understand that the Pharisees believed that they could divorce for any reason and marry another under the slightest provocation; the actual meaning of the verse is clear and is not in contradiction with the other clear verses on the subject. Divorce is sin, but is forgivable and is sometimes the best solution in a bad situation. Staying single or getting remarried is not a sin. God understands that we live in a fallen world and is willing to help us make the best of things. .
