Should Christians Vote?, Part 2

by Nicholas A. Catania

January 2017

Go to the previous issue.

In part one of this teaching we looked at the subject of government.

In order for the righteous to rule and judge accordingly, righteous people need to vote so they can win elections.

Take for instance the case of the two harlots who came before Solomon seeking custody of the child in 1Kings 3.

How about Saul trying to convince Samuel he did the will of the Lord concerning Amalek in1 Samuel 15ff?

What about Artaxerxes the king in Nehemiah 2:1 Not only did he give him permission to build the wall but he funded it.

Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

"Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty — as well as the privilege and interest — of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." - John Jay, (1745-1829, Original Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court)

"The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities … If the next centennial does not find us a great nation … it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces." -  Rev. James A. Garfield, (1831-1881), United States President and Minister of the Gospel.

Doctor would quote a man who said something like this. "The devil's against you, God's for you but you determine the election. In order to do this you must cast your vote."

Now I know what all those real religious Christians are thinking, things like: we're in this world but not of it … My citizenship is in heaven … store up for yourself treasures in heaven, etc. etc. etc.

You just keep thinking that way. It's that kind of thinking and ultimately that forfeiture of action that has led to the greatest holocaust in history.

I'm not talking about Adolf Hitler either. I'm talking about the all most 60 million abortions just in the United States since Roe vs. Wade in 1973

Over 7 million by Planned Parenthood. since 1970. Nearing 300,000 just this year.

You don't think you should vote and when you get Supreme Court justices who disrespect God who promote sin and call it equality or diversity then you complain.

Lawmakers who threaten to arrest you if you don't conform to sinful regulations that were able to be passed because you sat on your butt and did nothing to stop it. Because you don't think a Christian should vote.

Riddle me this my Christian brother or sister.

NIV Luke 4:6 And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to.

NJB Luke 4:6 and said to him, 'I will give you all this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, for me to give it to anyone I choose.

You know who handed it over to the devil?

Adam. You know how he handed it over to him?

For those of you who don't vote he did exactly what you did on Election Day, NOTHING.

You know what's missing from the record of the fall in Gen 3? It wasn't Adam he was right by her side.

ESV Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.

Adam failed to cast his vote he did nothing. He said nothing, he didn't lead, protect, guard, he did nothing just like Christians who think they should not vote.

He didn't speak up he didn't get involved. But what I want you to see is this: It was because of his silence and failure to act that the Bible says he handed over the lease and the right to govern the earth to Satan.

Likewise when we fail to vote for people who will further the cause of the Bible no matter how small it may be at times we hand over our government and the future of our children and grandchildren to ungodly people.

When we fail to care enough to vote for those who hold biblical principles we hand our freedoms and rights over once again to the devil.

He is the one behind all of this because Adam stood there and said nothing because after all it only involved government the government of the entire world.

John 3:16-17 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Does God's love and salvation not extend to Pennsylvania Avenue? Is not this included in the uttermost part of the world Act 1:8?

According to George Barna in his book, The Second Coming of the Church, the number of Christians that registered to vote in a poll taken in 1997 was 83% as compared to 79% of non-Christians. Then, in a more recent report, regarding Christians who vote, WallBuilders.com reported that from 1992 to 2000 there was a 40% total decrease in Christians who voted. They also reported that out of the 60 million evangelicals in America in 2000 only 15 million voted and that some 24 million (40%) evangelicals were not even registered to vote. If we have complaints about those in leadership that are immoral and the new laws that have been passed that are offensive and anti-biblical; we might lay the complaint at the steps of the church.

KJV 1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

Is it unreasonable to conclude that if the Lord would have us pray for leaders, would He not also want us to use every opportunity to assist in electing the leaders that would be the best ones for promoting peace and righteousness?

Song of Solomon 2:15 says, "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes."

Foxes sometimes, in search of food, would enter into the grape orchards and devour the grapes and spoil the crop. However, the little foxes were too small to reach the grape bunches so they would chew on the vines and it would kill the whole vine. Instead of the farmer just losing his crop, he would lose his vine which was more disastrous. Spiritually some things we do or allow that we might think are little or insignificant can also be disastrous for us.

Listed below are some of the "little foxes" that generally keep us from our civic responsibilities, in the area of voting. The devil uses these lies and others so that he can keep godly men and women away from the polls and get the candidates of his choice elected. If we do nothing, it makes it easy for the enemy to help those who could become the wrong leadership for our nation.

Should a Christian vote? Absolutely!

How should a Christian vote? He should be informed and not according to the media. There are godly websites you can go to where you can get the facts. American Family Association, Wallbuilders, Truth in Action, Christian Coalition, etc.

Then go pray and vote for the candidate who most represents biblical values.

And don't feed into the little foxes statement. "God's in control." Really, God's in control and you us this cliche … to justify your lack of concern and failure to vote.

Well for all you "God's in control" folks, why don't you use that excuse not to witness anymore? After all God's in control; he knows who's name is in the book of life, so it doesn't matter if you speak his word to someone. You don't need be a doer of the word because God's in control he's on the throne.

What a lame excuse. Yes, God's in control — however today is man's day; it's not the day of the Lord.

ESV 1 Corinthians 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

God's expects us to occupy until Jesus returns. We have free will — we make things happen by faith. People who say God's in control don't exercise faith they take what the devil hands them and spout "God's in control." If God's in control, do you mean to tell me he was responsible for Judas Iscariot? That He is responsible for the floods, the fires, murders, hurricanes, tornadoes, the mass genocide of helpless people in third world countries? The over 60 million abortions the USA permitted?

Are you saying that we should do nothing to help feed the poor and shelter the homeless and care for the sick? We should just sit back and do nothing, because after all, God's in control?

KJG 2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Yes, the god of this world is in control UNLESS we act in faith and stand against him. UNLESS we put on the whole armour of God and kick his but.

NJB Luke 4:6 and said to him, 'I will give you all this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, for me to give it to anyone I choose.

You just sit back and do nothing and keep saying "God's in control" and see how that works for you. In the meantime the army of God will march forth without you to battle the adversary. Then, you go explain to God why you put your light under a bushel.
