carnal mindThe Carnal Mind, Part 2

In part one of this teaching we learned that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

We then saw that the word "all" meant all without exception or all specifically to mark someone or something out.

We saw that once the sin of Adam entered into the world one of the results was that death passed upon all mankind.

Sin weakened the body and compromised the aging process that all mankind was born with. Thus, man’s life cycle was severely damaged by this one man’s sin.

We saw that God provided a way to redeem mankind from the sin he was born with through Jesus Christ. And that Jesus Christ was the only one who was born without the sin of Adam because His father was God.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

All children born into this word partake of flesh and blood. The word translated partake here is koinoneo which means "to share fully."

Jesus Christ only took part according to the verse.

The words "took part," come from the Greek word metecho. Metecho means to take only a part.

Now what part did Jesus take according to the word of God?

Luke 1:26-35 26And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. {highly…: or, graciously accepted, or, of much grace} 29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

The part that Jesus "took" was from Mary. The soul life, which is in the blood, came from God.

Leviticus 17:11a For the life of the flesh is in the blood…

Thus, with the exception of Jesus Christ, all mankind has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

The word flesh comes from the Greek word Sarx. Sarx denotes mere human nature, the earthly nature of man apart from divine influence, and therefore prone to sin and opposed to God.

To be opposed to God is to be in conflict with him, to clash with or compete with. It means to be against to disagree or to argue with God.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Every person who has ever walked the face of planet earth falls into this category with the exception of Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:5-6 5For they that are after the flesh (sarx) do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.6For to be carnally (Sarx) minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Sarx also means ones lower nature, sinful human nature.

Ephesians 2:1-3 1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, (sarx) fulfilling the desires of the flesh (sarx) and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

This is how we come from the factory. All mankind is built this way. We all are flesh and bones. This is our default and unless we choose different, we will die this way.

Romans 8:5-6 5For they that are after the flesh do mind (phroneo) the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded (phronema) is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

These Greek words, phroneo and phronema mean to think or to judge. It's your opinion what one has in his mind.

Your opinion comes from what you put in your mind. Do you know what IQ means? An IQ is an abbreviation for intelligence quotient. A quotient is a measure or an amount a proportion.

An IQ is a total score derived from a set of standardized tests or subtests designed to assess human intelligence. The abbreviation "IQ" was coined by the psychologist William Stern from a German term used for a scoring method for intelligence tests with the upper range of 160 to 400.

Stephen Hawking wrote, "There is no God" in his final book. It's not the first time he's shared that belief. His IQ was 160 according to USA TODAY.

"Brief Answers to the Big Questions" was released, detailing final thoughts the physicist had on the biggest questions humankind faces.

In the book, Hawking wrote, "there is no God." But it's not the first time the scientist, who died in March, has shared his belief on the subject.

"There is no God," wrote Hawking, as reported by CNN. "No one directs the universe."

Hawking expands on that premise more deeply, based on an excerpt of the book published by the U.K.'s Sunday Times:

"The question is, is the way the universe began chosen by God for reasons we can't understand, or was it determined by a law of science? I believe the second," wrote Hawking.

"If you like, you can call the laws of science "God," but it wouldn't be a personal God that you would meet and put questions to."

Remember: Romans 8:6 For to be carnally (Sarx) minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Sarx denotes mere human nature, the earthly nature of man apart from divine influence, and therefore prone to sin and opposed to God.

To be opposed to God is to be in conflict with him, to clash with or compete with. It means to be against to disagree or to argue with God. Stephen Hawking disagreed with God. Why?

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity (hate) against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Hawking chose to remain stupid. But that is never enough for these guys; they need to prove that they are right.

The problem is, when you think you know more than God, you've already lost. A brilliant fool is one who argues with God.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

At the end of the day what did Hawking achieve? If he missed out on the kingdom of God and the salvation and invitation that only comes by Jesus Christ, how smart was he after all?
